Gijs Diercks is a senior researcher and advisor. He specializes in translating insights from transition sciences into (policy) practice, both through substantive analysis and process-based guidance. Examples of current projects are Staat van Transitie (state of transition) where he assesses the current state of the transition to a circular economy for the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water. He also works on the creation of transition pathways for a future-proof mobility system to and from the Dutch Wadden Islands.

Gijs’s passion lies in intermediating between science and practice to steer and accelerate sustainability transitions. This is also the common thread in his career. After his studies (BSc in Economics and MSc in Sustainable Development) Gijs worked at two start-ups in the energy sector, before obtaining a PhD in transition sciences at Imperial College London. Before joining DRIFT, Gijs worked at the Rathenau Institute, where he was responsible for research & dialogue on the societal aspects of science, technology and innovation in various policy domains. On Sunday Gijs makes frantic attempts to keep a clean sheet in the lower leagues of Dutch amateur football.
